Diocesan Annual Appeal hits goals, misses record

Five tenets of a sound public school district organization are leadership, rigor, accountability, choice and community involvement.At present:The Wilkes-Barre Area School District ranks 488th out of 577 Pennsylvania districts, according to the website schooldigger.com.The district has been a poor steward of both the students and facilities that have been entrusted to its care.The financial condition of the district is abysmal; yet they can vote to approve raises, retirement incentives and compensation for unused vacation days (see the meeting minutes), but don&#8217;t seem to be able to find funding for textbooks or equipment repair.After much hand-wringing and posturing by the district, its taxpayers were given only one option on one site for a proposed new school.A right-to-know request to allow the district taxpayers to see the plans for the proposed new school was denied because terrorists might see these plans and determine locations for weapons caches, or students might use them to find spots for secret encounters.In baseball parlance, the Wilkes-Barre Area School District is 0 for 5.David WilsonWilkes-Barre
