RailRiders swept away in Syracuse

King&#8217;s College junior Corey Palma won medalist honors and was named the &#8220;Golfer of the Year&#8221; to lead the King&#8217;s College golf team to a third-place finish at the 2016 MAC Freedom Championships at the Hershey Country Club on Sunday.Manhattanville College won the team title by three strokes over Eastern University with a two-day score of 651. King&#8217;s and FDU-Florham each shot a 658 to finish tied for third while DeSales University and Misericordia tied for fifth with identical 664 scores. Delaware Valley University (689) and Wilkes University (692) rounded out the teams.Palma, from Old Forge, won medalist honors by two strokes with a two-day score of 157. After shooting a 78 Saturday, Palma shot a 79 Sunday on the par 71 course. He became the fifth golfer in program history to win a Conference Championship and the first since Leo Yerashunas won medalist honors in 1997 when the Middle Atlantic Conference combined both sides of the conference. The Championships were split into Commonwealth and Freedom in 2003.Ryan Tracy shot an 80 to finish in a six-way tie for ninth place with a final score of 164. Bill Dombroski shot a 82 to finish in a tie for 20th with a score of 168. Palma was named first team all-conference while Tracy was named to the second-team.McGarry named Rookie of the YearMisericordia University&#8217;s Tyler McGarry finished tied for second and was named co-Rookie of the Year at the MAC Freedom Men&#8217;s Golf Championships.McGarry shot 80-79 for a two-day total of 159, just two shots behind champion Corey Palma of King&#8217;s.Misericordia&#8217;s Zach Mulhern shot 164 (86-78) to finish tied for ninth and earned second-team All-MAC Freedom honors.The Cougars finished tied for fifth at 664. Wilkes men place eighthAlex Anderson led all Wilkes scorers by shooting a combined 164 on his way to a ninth-place overall finish as the Wilkes University men&#8217;s golf team finished in eighth place at the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.Anderson began the tournament shooting an 83 before a team-low 81 on round two of the tournament Sunday to finish tied for ninth place overall. The top five finishers at the event earn first team All-MAC Freedom honors while players finishing sixth through ten are named second team all-conference.Women&#8217;s golfCougars open in eighth placeThe Misericordia University women&#8217;s golf team is in eighth place after the opening day of the MAC Women&#8217;s Golf Championships on Sunday at the Hershey Country Club.Darian Reimer shot 97 and is in 13th place, 10 shots behind the leaders heading into Monday&#8217;s final day of competition. Michaela McQuaig is tied for 16th after shooting 100.Wilkes positioned in ninthThe Wilkes University women&#8217;s golf team finished in ninth place after day one at the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships .The Lady Colonels shot a combined 576 on the day in round one. Stevenson led all schools shooting a 379 while Lebanon Valley followed in second place with at 385.Alexa Flood led all Wilkes scorers in round one shooting a 125. Christy Taylor finished with a 129 while Kate Mahoney (152) and Elizabeth Reyes (170) rounded out the Lady Colonel finishers.BaseballKing&#8217;s 5, Delaware Valley 2Delaware Valley 9, King&#8217;s 8Andrew Fisher earned a complete-game victory in the opener as King&#8217;s College inched closer to postseason play by splitting a doubleheader.At 20-12 overall and 9-9 in Freedom Conference play, King&#8217;s needs just one win in its final three games against FDU-Florham to clinch the program&#8217;s first postseason appearance since 2011.Chris Rebar led the Monarchs with three hits on the day, including a home run and a double. He knocked in six runs and scored three. Bruce Breithaupt had two RBIs and a home run for King&#8217;s, while Tom Gibbons and Sean McKee scored two runs each. Kyle Lupas had two hits and knocked in a run.Rutgers-Camden 10, Misericordia 5Rutgers-Camden scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Cougars.D.J. Parkhurst won the top singles match, 6-0, 6-1 and Carl earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.Wilkes 9, Rutgers-Camden 0Brian Murray won the top singles match, 6-3, 6-5 and a Colonels split squad swept all nine matches.Bloomsburg 6, Wilkes 3Brian Murphy posted a victory in the top singles match, Troy Haas won at No. 6 but the Colonels fell to Division 2 Bloomsburg.Women&#8217;s tennisWilkes 8, Bloomsburg 1Kendra Croker, Jordan Vasarkovy, Madison Salmon, Erin Volutza and Grace Graham won in singles play for the Colonels, giving head coach Chris Leicht his 400th career victory.Wilkes won all three doubles matches as Wilkes improved to 17-2 overall on the season. Marissa Durako finished 13th out of 51 competitors in women&#8217;s 1500 meters in a MAC qualifying time of 5:14.16. She had the eight best Division III time. Morgan Albrecht ran a season best 5:26.45 while Tara Weitz also ran a season best 5:39.84. In the men&#8217;s 1500 Ben Siegel finished 15th out of 68 runners in 4:17.04 while Michael Havrilla ran a 4:26.76 and Brandon Hampton crossed the line in 4:28.87.HS softballMinersville 9, Berwick 3Kylie Levan hit a home run and drove home two of the Bulldogs&#8217; three runs in the non-conference defeat Saturday.Sammi Starr and Brooke Stout both finished with two hits for Berwick.<style>
