Students at Graham Academy in Kingston learn proper way to treat American flag

<p>EXETER &#8212; Strong work ethic and a tight knit community have given Pride Mobility a global name in motorized scooters.</p><p>According to the company website, the Meuser family bought Pride Health Inc. in 1986. At the time, Pride Health was a lift chair company; it has since evolved into a global company with subsidiaries in Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia.</p><p>In 2000, Pride Mobility launched Quantum Rehab, a division of the company dedicated to catering to the needs of those with severe mobile disabilities. Pride Mobility is in its 30th year and company officials credit the dedication and hard work of its employees for the company&#8217;s success.</p><p>&#8220;People in (Northeastern Pennsylvania) care so much about what they do,&#8221; said Mark Smith, general manager.</p><p>Pride also does manufacturing in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The plant, located in Duryea, employs more than 300 people and products made there are shipped all over the globe.</p><p>Chairman and CEO Scott Meuser boasts the manufacturing plant often has a product turnaround of about one day. Because of this, he said, he is &#8220;extremely proud&#8221; to be a Northeastern Pennsylvania company.</p><p>According to Smith, Pride Mobility has made a shift in the past couple decades into not only providing mobility options for seniors, but creating products that empower those with disabilities.</p><p>&#8220;(We) focus heavily on consumer design,&#8221; Smith said, emphasizing all design and engineering is done in Exeter.</p><p>Smith said the company creates &#8220;mobility products (customers) can get excited and delighted by.&#8221;</p><p>Kip Alder, manager of industrial design, works in the development of the company&#8217;s products and sending specifications of products to engineering.</p><p>&#8220;Our group is in charge of the look and feel (of the product),&#8221; said Alder, whose team is also in charge of product customization and ensuring customer satisfaction.</p><p>One of Pride Mobility&#8217;s newest products is the iLevel elevation chair, which elevates the user to eye level with those they encounter in their daily lives.</p><p>Jeanie Sayre, senior director of Quantum clinical development, explained how being eye to eye with someone &#8220;provides dignity&#8221; and &#8220;empowerment&#8221; into the lives of the users.</p><p>&#8220;(It) helps them become independent,&#8221; Sayre said.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a building process primarily with people who are homegrown and from this community,&#8221; Meuser said of the company&#8217;s employees.</p><p>Meuser talked about the passion of those who work at Pride as being infectious.</p><p>According to Denise Truesdale, vice president of human development, the company also does shadowing and recruitment with high schools in the area to bring students in and show them the variety of jobs available locally.</p><p>Truesdale said the company also works with colleges in the area to provide students with internships and job opportunities when they graduate.</p><p>She also commented on the quality of workers in Northeastern Pennsylvania.</p><p>&#8220;The work ethic in this community is like nothing I&#8217;ve ever seen,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Individuals want to work hard. They&#8217;re proud of what they do here.&#8221;</p><style>
