Sanders campaign laying off ‘hundreds’ of staffers as end of nominating calendar nears

<p>The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins accomplished their first goal by sweeping Providence in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs.</p><p>Their next challenge?</p><p>Staying game ready during a rather long wait.</p><p>The Penguins returned to the ice on Wednesday after a three-day break following their 3-0 series sweep over Providence.</p><p>The team awaits the winner of the Hershey vs. Portland series, which is tied at 1-1 and could go to May 1 if the series goes five games. That means the Penguins won&#8217;t play until sometime next week.</p><p>So is a long wait a good thing or a bad thing for the Penguins?</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a double-edged sword,&#8221; head coach Clark Donatelli said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a good thing that we can heal up, but at the same time we have to keep the high intensity level up, and we&#8217;ll have to do that in practice.&#8221;</p><p>To make sure his team stays in &#8220;compete mode&#8221; Donatelli has divided the players into two teams - Black and White. They&#8217;ll scrimmage during practice and hold competitions off the ice during the week, he said.</p><p>With no opponent to prepare for this week, the Penguins are content competing among themselves.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll have plenty of competition this week,&#8221; veteran forward Tom Sestito said. &#8220;But we also know it&#8217;s important to get rest, get healthy and take care of ourselves.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m looking forward to getting back into the routine of sleeping at home. Especially for me with a baby, it&#8217;s good to be home.&#8221;</p><p>NOTES</p><p>- The Penguins were still cherishing their sweep over Providence, and the fact that every win came in overtime.</p><p>&#8220;Not many playoff series have every game go to overtime, and it&#8217;s pretty rare to win all of them,&#8221; goaltender Casey DeSmith said.</p><p>Sestito added the Game 3 win, during which the Penguins squandered a 4-1 lead but won in double overtime, was especially memorable.</p><p>&#8220;Being up 4-1, if we would&#8217;ve lost that last one it would&#8217;ve been a tough one to swallow. But there wasn&#8217;t a time in the room where we felt we were going to lose that game,&#8221; Sestito said. &#8220;That was probably the first time under Clark and with all the new guys that I saw this team have that much confidence.&#8221;</p><p>But, Sestito cautioned it&#8217;s wise to move on from the Providence series and keep looking forward.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll remember that series if we keep winning. If we bow out in the next round, who really cares if we won three overtime games?&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;re on the right path and we&#8217;re playing like a playoff team, whereas two weeks prior to playoffs we were wondering how we&#8217;d be.&#8221;</p><p>- Donatelli said there&#8217;s a possibility D Reid McNeill can return for the next series. D Steve Oleksy and D Barry Goers didn&#8217;t practice and had &#8220;maintenance days,&#8221; Donatelli said.</p><style>
