<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A former Coughlin principal charged with perjury is to have no contact with four cooperating witnesses, a county judge ordered Thursday.</p><p>Police said Frank Michaels, 67, of Forty Fort, lied under oath about having knowledge of former Coughlin administrator Stephen Stahl&#8217;s sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.</p><p>Stahl, a former wrestling coach and teacher at the Wilkes-Barre high school, was convicted of corruption of minors and sentenced to serve six to 23 months in jail. He was granted parole in October.</p><p>Michaels, court papers say, testified that at no time during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 school years did he receive any type of information or accusations by anyone that Stahl was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with anyone.</p><p>Four anonymous &#8220;cooperating witnesses&#8221; were referenced in an affidavit outlining the charges against Michaels. Those witnesses, explained Assistant District Attorney Daniel Zola Thursday, are now identified in discovery materials exchanged between prosecutors and Michaels&#8217; attorney, Joseph Sklarosky Sr.</p><p>Zola asked the judge to forbid Michaels from contact with the four witnesses.</p><p>Luzerne County Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III granted the motion with the condition Sklarosky or an investigator used by the attorney could interview the witnesses.</p><p>Court papers allege Michaels knew about the allegations surrounding Stahl before he testified on his behalf.</p><p>According to court papers, the district attorney&#8217;s office interviewed Valley View High School Vice Principal Tresa Malligo in April 2015. Malligo, court papers say, told prosecutors while she was a teacher at Coughlin, students told her they had seen a student in Stahl&#8217;s truck, that the student had been in Stahl&#8217;s house and that Stahl would take the student out.</p><p>Malligo said she informed Michaels, who allegedly said he would &#8220;take care of it.&#8221;</p><p>Witness accounts allege that while Michaels was principal, he called Stahl into his office, told him to open his paycheck and tape the stub to his desk. Michaels then allegedly told Stahl to look at the pay stub &#8220;and think: Is that piece of __ worth your paycheck?&#8221;</p><p>The retired principal, who remains free on bail, is charged with perjury, false swearing and endangering the welfare of children.</p><p>He is scheduled to be tried on the charges June 27.</p><style>
