20 years ago &#8212; 1996Kyle Hazleton, a member of Tiger Cub Pack 281, Dallas, won first prize in the Frog Jumping contest held recently at the West Side Mall. He attends Westmoreland school with his brother, Michael and is a member of Shavertown United Methodist Church. He was assisted in making his frog by older brother Terry and Doug Ogle.Wrestlers from the Back Mountain Wrestling Club recently participated in the Montoursville Elementary Wrestling Tournament. Members who placed in the top four positions are: Donovan White, Peewee 40, 3rd place; Derek White, Midget 65, 4th place; Andrew Harrison, Midget 85, 2nd place; Michael Yenason, Junior 85, 2nd place; and Aaron Kubasik, Junior 70, 1st place.30 years ago &#8212; 1986The Mountaineers Booster Club of Penn State Wilkes-Barre is holding a 50&#8217;s dance at the campus Commons this Friday. Music will be provided by Diamond Jim. The dance kicks-off a week of events coordinated by the Student Activities Department to help celebrate the end of the school year. Booster Club members are: Jerry Rollman, Charlie Mantione, Carrie Hughes, Peter Sobchak, Ken Matulewski, Karen Cox and Jackie Helman.Boy Scout Troop 331 of Harveys Lake recently won six ribbons when its members attended Polar Bear Camp Out at Frances Slocum State Park. The boys won ribbons for: first place in the sack race; second place for fire building; third place in the ice awl; third place in overall competition and a Participation Ribbon. Those attending were: Ted Nafus, Barry Pahler Jr., Derrick Balogna, Chet Koprowski, Heath Williams and Tom Lewis.<ins>At the 59th Annual Charter Night of the Dallas Rotary Club held recently at Irem Temple Country Club, Ralph Conner and Robert Baird received the coveted Paul Harris Award. The award, named after the founder of Rotary International, is given for outstanding service and contributions to Rotary and its endeavors locally and world wide.</ins>40 years ago &#8212; 1976Sheila Bonawitz, Shavertown, was chosen as Hidden Heroine for the Shavertown Trucksville Neighborhood of the Penn&#8217;s Woods Girl Scout Council.Dallas basketball players were honored at the annual banquet given by their parents and friends last week at the Dallas Senior High School. Seniors were presented with awards and Bruce Riefenstahl, team captain, was presented with an award for his outstanding contribution to the team throughout the season.Trucksville Junior Girl Scout Troop 630, working on its &#8217;76 Bicentennial badge, visited the old Fairmont Springs Hotel that is being restored by the Major family of Lehman on Thursday. The scouts were given a full tour of the 1846 hotel by Mrs. Bryce Major and served hot chocolate and Easter Bunny cookies. Mrs. Henry Moyer, Home Life Chairman, presented Miss Sickler with a silver charm bracelet. She was awarded the honor due to her scholastic ability and extra curricular activities.Thirteen young people were confirmed at St. Paul&#8217;s Lutheran Church on Palm Sunday. Lewis have purchased the former Huntsville Inn on the Huntsville-Ceasetown Road from Paul Gates and have opened the Huntsville Recreation Center there after considerable renovations and redecoration work. The center has one of the finest dance floors in this area.A little band of youngsters, students in the second grade at Dallas Borough Schools, scampered past the Post to the Sterling Machell farm Wednesday evening to see &#8220;the milkin.&#8221; Cheerful little voices, all speaking at once, explained earnestly that they&#8217;d waited until five o&#8217;clock because that&#8217;s the time that &#8220;cows like to be milked.&#8221; In the class were: Marilyn Deutsch, Rolland Dorn, Carol Ann Rudy, Robert Pizner, Joseph Noon, Janice Antrim, Willard Schmoll, Richard Shaffer, Charlotte Payne, Marilyn Shaver, Jenny Atkinson and Lee Ohlman.Lehman High School Band of fifty young musicians will leave today by bus for Johnstown where it will take part on Saturday in the State Championship competitions of the Pennsylvania Music League sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh.
