Teen birth rate hits all-time low

<p>KINGSTON &#8212; The Kingston Historical Society hosted area former wrestlers and coaches from Kingston High School, Central Catholic High School and Wyoming Seminary at Wyoming Seminary on Thursday evening.</p><p>The event had the feel of a high school reunion, with many of those in attendance saying they enjoyed not only recalling the athletic successes of their high school years, but also seeing former teammates with whom they had lost touch.</p><p>Ned McGinley, who wrestled for Kingston High School, was lauded by attendees for his contributions to wrestling and area young people.</p><p>McGinley, the King&#8217;s College wrestling coach for many years, was recently inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1961 and was a two-time district champion and regional runner-up during his tenure there.</p><p>He went on to graduate from Wilkes College in 1965, where he earned four letters and had a career record of 50-14.</p><p>McGinley said grappling provided him an opportunity to go to college.</p><p>&#8220;My father passed away when I was in eighth grade,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I very much benefited from the discipline and friendship the sport provided.&#8221;</p><p>Terry McGinley, who said he was Ned&#8217;s &#8220;little brother&#8221; and also wrestled for Kingston High School, said the sport built character because it was both an individual and a team sport.</p><p>John Reese, of Kingston, wrestled for Kingston High School before going on to be a wrestling coach at Wilkes University. He is one of the winningest coaches in college wrestling history with 515 wins.</p><p>&#8220;I had 38 straight winning seasons,&#8221; Reese said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think anyone can beat that.&#8221;</p><p>Reese said that beyond teaching participants how to compete, the sport built both character and friendships that have endured.</p><p>Isabella Pisaneschi, of the Kingston Historical Society, said all three area high schools had great success, especially in the 50s and 60s. Pisaneschi said the historical society decided to highlight wrestling this year because a previous focus on football had been very well received.</p><p>The society, now in its third year, is seeking to educate area residents about the history of Kingston.</p><p>Nancy Hermann, of Kingston, said often wrestlers knew he each other in different roles as time unfolded.</p><p>&#8220;The history of wrestling in Kingston came in layers,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Gordon Dussinger, a coach at Kingston High School, looked back on the tremendous amount of wrestlers each high school had.</p><p>&#8220;There was no money in the budget for trophies or anything,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We would ask the parents.&#8221;</p><p>He remembers one parent asking, &#8220;How much do you need?&#8221;</p><style>
