Dorcas Society of St Paul’s Lutheran Church will hold Spring Rummage Sale

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; Approximately 20 borough residents turned out Saturday morning for the &#8220;Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania.&#8221;</p><p>The event sees residents of communities throughout the state clean up their neighborhoods from March through May.</p><p>As participants gathered at the borough building, many said the borough&#8217;s celebration of its sesquicentennial and the upcoming Kielbasa Festival were reasons enough to take part in the event.</p><p>As Frank Coughlin passed out bright orange safety vests, work gloves and trash bags, he said participants were encouraged to focus on their own neighborhoods and to &#8220;spread out from there.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;We also focus on our borough parks where debris tends to gather and children play,&#8221; Coughlin said.</p><p>Mayor Dorothy Petrosky said PennDOT assisted by collecting trash from the event at no charge.</p><p>Petrosky hopes the event will continue to grow with more residents participating in upcoming years.</p><p>&#8220;There is a continuing need to clean up certain areas,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And it really does make everything more attractive to visitors and residents.&#8221;</p><p>Terry Womelsdorf, president of &#8220;Plymouth Alive,&#8221; said the group was focused on putting the borough&#8217;s best foot forward in the upcoming months.</p><p>The group, which organizes the Kielbasa Festival, is helping to bring 16 specially crafted garbage cans to the downtown area.</p><p>George Tensa, of the Knights of Columbus, was on hand with several members of the group.</p><p>Tensa said the organization is a vital part of the community, participating in not just the cleanup, but also in Coats for Kids, the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and other charitable efforts.</p><p>John Mazur, representing the American Legion Post 463, said his organization had brought members out simply because it was an opportunity to assist.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s about the community,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;re here as part of the community.&#8221;</p><p>Councilman Bill Dixon was on hand during the project cleaning out storm drains and encouraging others to get the job done.</p><p>The event seemed to provide an opportunity both to bring areas of Plymouth back to their best and for residents to gather and plan for upcoming summer events.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s all about revitalization and supporting other residents and civic groups,&#8221; said Womelsdorf. &#8220;We&#8217;ll all be back next year.&#8221;</p><style>
