Rain possible through the midweek in the Wyoming Valley

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Two dogs died Monday morning in a fire that ravaged a residence on North Washington Street.</p><p>The structure is owned by Giant Property Group LLC, based on State Route 315 in Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>City Fire Chief Jay Delaney said crews were dispatched to 384 N. Washington St. at 3:42 a.m. for a report of a residential structure fire.</p><p>&#8220;Our crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire on the first floor and the second floor of the property,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Delaney explained the fire was moving rapidly, and the call went to three alarms. He said it was initially difficult for crews because there was so much fire and houses in the area tend to be close together. He added crews were able to keep the fire contained with minimal damage to neighboring structures.</p><p>Delaney said the three occupants of the residence got out &#8220;literally with the shirts on their backs&#8221; and most were not wearing shoes. Officials from the American Red Cross are currently on the scene.</p><p>No injuries were reported to either civilians or firefighters, but Delaney said two dogs were found dead inside the residence. A third dog made it out of the house.</p><p>Delaney said the investigation is ongoing. Capt. Robert Suchoski is continuing to investigate the cause.</p><style>
