<p>HARVEYS LAKE &#8212; A hot spot for endurance sports will hold a grand opening Saturday, showcasing a variety of services available to the public.</p><p>Strive Multisport, located in the former Villa Roma Pizza and Pasta Restaurant at 4975 Memorial Hwy., (Route 415), opened in October 2015. The business provides endurance sports training and equipment for novice and experienced joggers, bicyclists and swimmers, said Andy McDonald, a co-owner.</p><p>Seven months after opening, McDonald and his business partner, Dennis Knowlton, felt a misconception was building about the business.</p><p>&#8220;The public reaction has been good, but there is a misconception you have to be a pro athlete to come in,&#8221; McDonald said. &#8220;There are a lot of people who don&#8217;t know about us.&#8221;</p><p>McDonald and Knowlton said the grand opening celebration will feature group runs and rides to dispel the belief the business targets only professional athletes and triathletes.</p><p>The celebration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at both the Harveys Lake and 629 Pittston Ave., Scranton locations.</p><p>On Saturday, the Harveys Lake site will hold two group bike rides starting at 6:30 and 7:30 a.m., plus a Newton Run at 10 a.m. The Scranton location, formerly known as Cedar Bike &amp; Paddle, will hold a group bike ride at 7:30 a.m.</p><p>McDonald&#8217;s experience of training to compete in the Tour de Scranton nearly six years ago taught him how intimidating exercise studios can be for novices.</p><p>He wanted to create an endurance sports hub where beginners and experienced athletes can learn and train together.</p><p>Strive Multisport sells a variety of equipment and clothing plus provides the following:</p><p>&#8226; a knowledgeable staff to educate people about how to maintain their equipment:</p><p>&#8226; a two-lane endless pool that includes an underwater treadmill for low-impact rehabilitation;</p><p>&#8226; a Wahoo Kickr indoor bike studio;</p><p>&#8226; bike storage facility;</p><p>&#8226; a selection of running shoes;</p><p>&#8226; a variety workshops, safety clinics and classes; and</p><p>&#8226; group runs, swims and rides.</p><p>The business also offers a lounge area for lake area joggers and bicyclists to stop and take advantage of decompression boots to relax hard-worked muscles.
