WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) — Relatives and friends are remembering a woman killed in a drive-by shooting in southwestern Pennsylvania as a happy person whose life was unfairly cut short due to violence. Officials in Washington County said 19-year-old Alexis Barnett was an innocent bystander walking with friends when she was shot and killed Wednesday night in Washington, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. Another woman was injured. Dozens of friends, family and community members gathered for a vigil Friday evening to remember Barnett. Drizzling rain prevented them from lighting candles, but they released red heart-shaped balloons after saying in unison, "We love you, Alexis." Barnett's father, Larry Thompson, urged parents to do a better job of making sure their children don't get involved in drugs and illegal activities.
