Letter to the Editor: State Senate duo failing NEPA constituents on climate change-related issues

<p>Donald Trump is definitely P.T. Barnum reincarnated. Barnum was a great showman and promoter who believed a sucker was born every minute.</p><p>Like Barnum, Trump is an entertainer, con artist, illusionist and showman with a personality and flamboyance capable of mesmerizing millions of Americans. His trump card is his own self-promotion; he&#8217;s the king of ballyhoo.</p><p>Trump&#8217;s master stroke was in 2004 when they debuted his television show &#8220;The Apprentice.&#8221; Donald realized that he could eliminate the middle men who controlled his reality show. It was on this show that he experienced the high of having tens of millions of Americans admiring the Trump image as a can-do, successful, cut-the-nonsense entrepreneur. Consequently, his audience felt they had a direct relationship with him. All of the intimacy is an illusion, but it has created a loyal following of people who are supporting his candidacy for president.</p><p>Trump is an aberration in the history of American presidential politics. The GOP leadership has lost count of the indignities he has inflicted on its traditional rites and rituals. He has shredded the political rule book. Never in the history of presidential politics has a candidate stated such preposterous policies that would normally derail a candidacy. Paradoxically, in Trump&#8217;s case, his popularity has increased. The only possible explanation is that Americans are tired of the same old political rhetoric and they savor the billionaire&#8217;s audacity of saying whatever he pleases.</p><p>Many Americans like the fact that he does not play a politically correct game. Trump says what many people wish they could say but don&#8217;t for fear of being branded intolerant. </p><p>The more he dishonors the conventions of politics, the more his supporters like him. In their eyes, the government and political process have failed.</p><p>Most of Trump&#8217;s supporters believe it is time to give an outsider a chance to bring America back to prominence, because nothing else is working. U.S. Sen. John McCain and Mitt Romney are correct. Donald Trump is incompetent and unstable; he lacks domestic and foreign policy expertise and lacks the temperament to lead the United States. He is a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false promises in order to gain power. Donald is the definition of a narcissist caught up in the fantasy of wanting to be president.</p><p>Romney was 100 percent correct in calling Trump &#8220;a phony&#8221; who is &#8220;playing the American public for suckers,&#8221; a man whose &#8220;imagination must not be married to real power.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Bill Sarnak</strong></p><p>Harding</p><style>
