Wyoming Area clinches WVC Division 2 baseball title

<p>HANOVER TWP. &#8212; The township had three reasons to celebrate Monday night at the monthly commissioners meeting.</p><p>Construction bids for the long-awaited fire station on the Sans Souci Parkway were awarded, and two township employees were honored with retirement plaques during the meeting.</p><p><a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/536111/hanover-township-commissioners-happy-with-prospects-for-building-of-consolidated-fire-station" target="_blank">During an April opening,</a> township Manager Sam Guesto and Sam Scarantino, Quad III architect of the project, opened the bids, which were awarded Monday.</p><p>Members of the board, minus absent Commissioner Michael Mazur, voted to award:</p><p>&#8226; Champion Builders the general construction contract for $1,321,793.</p><p>&#8226; Marx Sheet Metal &amp; Mechanical the HVAC construction contract for $244,784.</p><p>&#8226; Don Cooper Plumbing &amp; Heating the plumbing contract for $204,700.</p><p>&#8226; G.R. Noto the electrical contract for $272,000.</p><p>&#8226; Brdaric Excavating Inc. the sitework construction contract for $699,745.</p><p>Guesto told the Times Leader in April that he hopes shovels will be in the dirt by June and the project completed in the middle of next year.</p><p>The township also celebrated the retirement of 44-year employee Eileen Valunas, who began working for the township in 1972 in the police department. She finished her career as the budget finance director working under Guesto.</p><p>Valunas will be replaced by Jennifer Dukes.</p><p>Commissioner Jeff Lewis told Dukes &#8220;you&#8217;ll have big shoes to fill.&#8221;</p><p>The township also celebrated the retirement 10-year school crossing guard William Reddick.</p><p>In other business, the board:</p><p>&#8226; Hired seven temporary laborers for the public works department and nine temporary fire truck drivers for stations 2, 5 and 6.</p><p>&#8226; Hired Richard Hummer as the township zoning officer.</p><p>&#8226; Granted police officer Richard Andress permanent work status.</p><p>&#8226; Donated nine abandoned bicycles to Community Family Services.</p><p>&#8226; Approved water shut off for delinquent sewer fee accounts.</p><p>&#8226; Authorized Guesto to purchase equipment for township parks.</p><p>The next board meeting will be 7 p.m. June 13 at the municipal building.</p><style>
