<p>Recently, I had the experience of riding an elephant at a local circus. This big fellow was so peaceful amid the hoopla of a large crowd.</p><p>All of my life I had wanted to be up close to the largest land animal on Earth. It became a reality and created a very long-lasting memory for me, as it has for others.</p><p>These elephants will be taken to a peaceful reserve to enjoy their lives and their future contentment. Animals can become friends no matter how enormous they become. Stories are written to emphasize how this is possible.</p><p>Elephants, we are told, have a good memory and do not forget. As I departed my big friend, I caressed him and told him that I loved him. What better memory could I have conveyed?</p><p><strong>Ronald Voveris</strong></p><p>Yatesville</p><style>
