My Corner, Your Corner: I always tried to make Mother’s Day special for Mom

<p>HUGHESTOWN &#8212; Students in Renee Shotwell&#8217;s kindergarten class are excited to give gifts to their moms on Sunday.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s Mother&#8217;s Day,&#8221; said 6-year-old Cody Jackson.</p><p>It&#8217;s not just a day named after Mom, it&#8217;s a day to thank Mom, or at least that&#8217;s what 6-year-old Gabriella Kotyk said.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a day where you give something to your mom,&#8221; she said.</p><p>The students already had gifts in mind, but when asked what they would buy their moms with a cool $1 million, they had some other ideas.</p><p>Maggie Gruber, 6, said she would hire outside help to assist her mom in household chores.</p><p>&#8220;I would get someone like a maid that cleans up and she can just cook and then she can sit down and relax,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Nathan Drouse, 6, said he would spend his money to have his mom&#8217;s clothes washed for her while Judith Stewart, 6, said she would get her mom a big box of chocolates.</p><p>&#8220;You shouldn&#8217;t have said that; I&#8217;m hungry now,&#8221; responded Garrett Santiago, 6.</p><p>George Donnelly, 6, thought of a more sentimental item to buy his mom.</p><p>&#8220;I would buy my mommy a picture frame for me and my mommy,&#8221; he said.</p><p>All moms are important &#8212; including Mom&#8217;s mom. Some students offered Mother&#8217;s Day gift ideas for the grandmothers in their lives.</p><p>Ava Frame, 6, would buy her grandma a box of chocolates, but some students came up with some more inventive gifts for their grandmothers.</p><p>&#8220;I would get her a motorcycle,&#8221; said 5-year-old Jack Boone.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;d buy her a firetruck,&#8221; said Skylar Wall, 5.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;d buy my grandma a police car,&#8221; said Gavin Werner, 6.</p><p>Sticking with motor vehicles, 6-year-olds Alex Sowden and Ricardo Nunes said they would each buy their grandmother a Jeep.</p><p>Aunts also got recognition from the students.</p><p>Gavin Jacek, 5, said he&#8217;d buy his aunt a pet of her choosing, and Alissa Pointek, 5, said she would buy her aunt a dog.</p><p>Lane Wesley, 6, wanted to keep it simple and buy his aunt some flowers.</p><p>Six-year-old Christopher Shovlin had a fun gift idea in mind for his aunt.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;d buy my aunt a dune buggy,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Santiago thought about buying his aunt some dinner.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;d get her a hamburger,&#8221; he said.</p><p>The students were curious as to what their teacher would buy for her mom.</p><p>Some suggested Shotwell should get her mom diamonds or a certificate to a salon, but Shotwell had other ideas in mind for what to buy her mom with $1 million.</p><p>&#8220;How about a vacation around the world?&#8221; she said.</p><style>
