ATLANTA (AP) — There's no sign of mechanical problems in a plane that crashed during a Georgia airshow, killing the pilot, a federal investigator said. The pilot, 50-year-old Greg Connell, was the only one aboard the plane that crashed Saturday afternoon during the Good Neighbor Day Open House Airshow at the DeKalb Peachtree Airport just northeast of Atlanta, authorities said. Connell was flying in tandem with another plane during an aerial acrobatics stunt show when the plane crashed and caught fire. Investigators are going through video shot by professionals and amateurs, said Ralph Hicks, an official with the National Transportation Safety Board. They will be looking at many possible factors, including the wind that day, the possibility of turbulence and also the sun angle, Hicks told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (on-ajc.com/1XmK6gY). In Augusta, Georgia, more than 500 friends and family members on Wednesday attended a memorial service for Connell, who was from North Augusta, South Carolina, The Augusta Chronicle reported (bit.ly/253hGv4). "Greg was one of the most generous and humble people I ever met," said Mark Sorenson, who flew in airshows with Connell. "We started about the same time and it was incredible how popular Greg became. To see where he started to how far he went, man, that was something special." Connell died in the first crash in 30 years of the air show, DeKalb Fire Rescue Capt.
