PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Mayor Jim Kenney is offering condolences to the family of a maintenance worker who died months after he was severely burned in a January boiler explosion at a Philadelphia elementary. District officials say 62-year-old Christopher Trakimas died from his injuries Wednesday morning. Trakimas, a district automatic plant mechanic, had been working on a boiler in the basement of the F.S. Edmonds School when it exploded. He had been hospitalized with third-degree burns to the lower part of his body. Kenney says every functioning boiler in city schools has been inspected since. The Philadelphia Inquirer says more than half of the nearly 550 boilers needed minor repairs while 11 were shut down for major repairs. A lawyer for the Trakimas', Colin Burke, says no lawsuit has been filed.
