PITTSBURGH (AP) — A New York man has pleaded guilty to paying people to buy guns in western Pennsylvania which were then smuggled back to New York and sold on the street. Thirty-one-year-old Michael Bassier (bass-ee-AY') entered the plea before a federal judge in Pittsburgh on Thursday. He faces up to 10 years in prison when he returns for sentencing Dec. 1. Federal prosecutors say Bassier aided and abetted the purchase of 44 guns between December 2014 and August 2015. Because Bassier is a convicted felon, he can't legally buy guys. That's why prosecutors say he enlisted others to buy the guns, which he then smuggled on cheap interstate bus trips back to New York. All of the straw purchasers involved have also already pleaded guilty.
