Letter to the Editor: Pharmaceutical industry key to solving state’s heroin crisis

<p>Almost three years ago, our lives changed forever when our father, Capt. Jack Kelly, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. This was shortly after his retirement from the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department, after nearly 30 years of service as a career firefighter.</p><p>As he went through his extensive medical treatments, his fire department brothers were with him through good days and bad, providing both moral and financial support &#8211; and never forgetting his devotion and dedication to the city and the department.</p><p>Unfortunately, our dad passed away May 11; within hours, members of the fire department responded and offered whatever assistance was needed &#8211; and far beyond. This included a full, continuous honor guard, the dozens of firefighters and paramedics from the area who came to pay their last respects, a funeral procession escort that paused momentarily at the Hollenback Fire Station for a memorial salute, and his firefighter brothers carrying him to his final place of rest.</p><p>There is no way that words ever will adequately express our sincere thanks and admiration for the members of the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department, for all their support and assistance during this most difficult time. The city of Wilkes-Barre is very fortunate to be served by such an outstanding group of professionals, who are always there in time of need.</p><p>On behalf of our entire family, please accept our sincerest gratitude and appreciation for all that you did for Captain Jack in his final days, and for all that you do each and every day.
