<p>PITTSTON &#8212; U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $40,000 Economic Impact Grant and $34,200 Community Facility Loan to the Greater Pittston Ambulance Rescue Service.</p><p>The Rural Development funds will be used to purchase a 2016 Ford E 350 chassis to mount a 2008 Horton 453 ambulance and other necessary equipment, according to a news release. The new equipment will replace a current ambulance unit with over 100,000 miles, which has become too costly to repair and maintain.</p><p>The additional ambulance is needed to cover six boroughs served by Greater Pittston Ambulance Rescue Service.</p><p>The purpose of the Community Facility grant and loan program is to provide affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. &#8220;Essential community facility&#8221; is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings.</p><style>
