WAWAYANDA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say three people have died after a tractor-trailer and a car collided on Interstate 84, closing a westbound stretch of the highway for several hours. State police confirm three people in the car were killed in the collision around 4 a.m. Wednesday near Exit 3 in the town of Wawayanda (way-way-AHN'-dah), 60 miles northwest of New York City. No other information has been released by troopers, who are expected to provide details at a 2 p.m. news conference being held at Troop F headquarters in Middletown. The crash shut down the highway's westbound lanes between Exit 2 near the Pennsylvania border to Exit 3 outside Middletown until around noon. Westbound traffic was diverted off I-84 onto Route 6 during the closure.
