McGinty forced to explain 1st-to-college claim

<p>Ah, a beautiful spring day. I think I&#8217;ll take a walk along the river in Forty Fort.</p><p>Songbirds sing, eagles soar, and fish are jumping in water dyed a putrid orange by acid mine drainage, spewing from the far shore.</p><p>Overhead, a helicopter flying downstream discharges clouds of insecticide all along the waterway.</p><p>Next, a tanker truck slowly rumbles along the macadam walkway, using a fire hose to deliver a 60-foot plume of herbicide to the river bank. Incredible!</p><p>Is this indiscriminate assault on nature by land and air really necessary? It would seem that practices such as these can only hasten the &#8220;Silent Spring&#8221; that Rachel Carson warned us about in 1962.</p><p><strong>Scott Smith</strong></p><p>Forty Fort</p><style>
