Twin of state AG Kathleen Kane files complaint about sister’s office

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; In preparation for Flag Day on June 14, Mayor Tony George is encouraging all Wilkes-Barre residents and business owners to proudly display the American flag on their homes and businesses.</p><p>The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton BPO Elks Lodge No. 109 will hold its annual Flag Day Ceremony this year at 4 p.m. on June 14 in City Council Chambers, City Hall, 4th Floor, 40 E. Market St., Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Jim Walsh, a 91-year-old resident of Wilkes-Barre who served in the Army in Europe during World War II, will be the guest speaker. Walsh is a proud American and a proud veteran; he is known in the community as an advocate for veterans.</p><p>City residents should note that Flag Day is a city holiday; therefore, City Hall will be closed and there will be no Department of Public Works services for the day.</p><p>Because of the holiday, residents in the North End, Heights, and Brookside neighborhoods with a Tuesday Collection Day will have their garbage and yard waste picked up on Wednesday, June 15. Recycling pickup for North End, Heights, and Brookside will resume the following Tuesday, June 21. All other collection dates will remain as scheduled.</p><p>While there are many claims to the first observance of Flag Day since the birth of our nation, it took until Aug. 3, 1949, for Congress to approve the national observance and for President Harry Truman to sign it into law, according to the news release.</p><style>
