NEWPORT TWP. - The Newport Township Sons of the American Legion Squadron 539 will host a Night at the Races at 7 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post Home, 62 Newport St., Glen Lyon. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include a horse and unlimited food and drink. Tickets are available at the door or call 570-736-7177.They are sponsoring a traditional Flag Day Ceremony on Tuesday, in front of the post home. Uniform of the day is white shirt, black pants and tie and legion cap. Free hamburgers, hot dogs and other refreshments will be available after the Ceremony, as well as copies of the U.S. Flag Code. The public is encouraged to attend.Worn and tattered flags for disposal at the annual ceremony are accepted year long at the Post and at the Glen Lyon Post Office.
