Stephen L. Broskoske: The arts promote creative thinking; don’t cut them from school curriculum

WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Luzerne County Republican Party committee members will vote for new leadership in the next several weeks, according to county Chairman Bill Urbanski.The party will convene six district conventions, where party committee members will elect district chairpersons in each of the county&#8217;s legislative districts.Committee members were elected during the spring primary election and are described by the party as the &#8220;keystone of the political process.&#8221;Each of 180 precincts in Luzerne County elected two committee people.Urbanski emphasized the importance of the process which occurs every four years concurrent with the presidential election.Committee members also represent their precincts at the county convention yet to be scheduled, at which the chairman of the Luzerne County Republican Party is elected.The county chairman and the executive committee oversee and direct all Republican Party activity in the county.The process, said Urbanski, is dictated by the party&#8217;s bylaws.Urbanski, who has served as the party&#8217;s chairman since 2012 after defeating incumbent Terry Casey, said he will seek re-election to the position.
