MOOSIC &#8212; It doesn&#8217;t happen too often that teams keep the potent Charlotte offense in check for one game, let alone two in a row.So after pitching a shutout on the night before, it seemed unlikely that the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre&#8217;s pitching staff would keep the Knights off the scoreboard again on Thursday night.While the RailRiders did minimize the scoring, they couldn&#8217;t stop the Knights completely and lost 3-2 at PNC Field as Charlotte salvaged a split of the four-game series.Brady Lail was the hard-luck loser for the RailRiders as he struck out a season-high eight and led the SWB pitching staff, which retired the Knights in order five times in the game.But the right-handed Lail labored a bit in the third inning giving up three runs with one out. Two scored on a double by Danny Hayes, who struck a 3-0 pitch from Lail to right field, while the third crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Nicky Delmonico giving the Knights a 3-0 lead.&#8220;In those situations, you cannot give in,&#8221; RailRiders manager Al Pedrique said about the 3-0 hit allowed to Hayes. &#8220;If you walk the guy OK, you have a right-hander on deck. I think that&#8217;s the only mistake he made. But Ben Gamel walked to keep the inning alive and Donovan Solano doubled on a flyball to right that Nicky Delmonico lost and plated two runs.After that, SWB couldn&#8217;t manage much against Chris Volstad, who went seven innings and didn&#8217;t allow a runner past second the rest of the way. He got Nick Swisher to bounce into a double play with runners on first and second and one out in the sixth for the only other threat against him.&#8220;He moved the ball around the plate and against righties, he threw the cutter on the hand and we couldn&#8217;t lay off that pitch and couldn&#8217;t get good swings on those pitches,&#8221; Pedrique said. &#8220;When we were getting runners on bases, we kept swinging at his pitches and we weren&#8217;t patient.
