<p>According to an Insurance Services Office representative, due to the fact that the state Legislature has allowed our Uniform Construction Code &#8211; the code used in the construction of new buildings and additions in Pennsylvania &#8211; to become more than five years old without major changes, the insurance premiums of all existing and new residential and commercial properties might substantially increase.</p><p>ISO is used by most insurance companies to establish the rates they use in setting your premiums.</p><p>Unfortunately, most legislators are not aware of this impending crisis. Contact your local legislator to make sure he or she is aware of this issue and takes appropriate action to avoid these cost increases. The UCC is primarily based on the 2009 International Building Code and its referenced standards.</p><p>This issue would not exist if the Legislature passed legislation that would require the statewide code to be within the five-year, acceptable window.
