Paul Heimel: State should increase pay in lieu of taxes for forest land

<p>During a recent trip to Indiana, the president took time to insult working-class Americans, singling out veterans who spend time at Legion halls.</p><p>The theme of his speech essentially was that middle-class people are too stupid to understand what great things the Democrats are doing for our country. He declared as fallacy that liberal spending is transferring wealth from the middle class to the welfare class. The president is entitled to his opinion but not his own set of facts.</p><p>Almost 50 percent of Americans receive some type of government subsidy today, a dramatic rise from decades past. The president single-handedly nearly doubled our deficit.</p><p>The president takes credit for the greatest peace-time economic recovery in our history, yet a record number of work-age adults are no longer in the workforce. Poster child programs of waste and inefficiency such as the free summer school lunch have expanded, not contracted, during Obama&#8217;s tenure. Likewise, the Obama phone program is growing, despite being rendered obsolete by the free market. If you can&#8217;t afford a phone, you are a non-functioning adult, and the guardian you will require will have one.</p><p>Our schizophrenic president called out those who seek to divide us on race, religion, sex and class. The entire Democratic platform is based on creating these divisions. While the press is turning a blind eye, the president&#8217;s own rhetoric is inspiring violent assaults on citizens attending Donald Trump rallies.</p><p>I would like to conclude by thanking our veterans for putting service to country ahead of your personal lives and, unlike the president, I value your opinions.</p><p><strong>Kirk Matoushek</strong></p><p>Simpson</p><style>
