Wilkes-Barre budget surplus exceeds $8.5 million through the end of May

<p>Authenticity in politics has become a major selling point. Voters are sick of candidates pretending to be something they are not.</p><p>Apparently, Katie McGinty has not gotten the word.</p><p>As part of her platform for U.S. Senate, McGinty often proclaims that she was the first in her family to go to college. The problem? This is a lie.</p><p>McGinty&#8217;s brother John graduated from La Salle College (now University) in 1973. He then went on to earn a master&#8217;s degree from Temple University in 1978. Katie McGinty did not even begin attending Saint Joseph&#8217;s University until 1981.</p><p>Over the past week or so, McGinty has been confronted with this lie. Rather than own it or offer an explanation for selling her brother short, McGinty and her campaign staff have continued to defend her statement.</p><p>And this is only the latest example of McGinty failing to take responsibility for her actions. Let us not forget, this is the same candidate who used a campaign worker as a prop at a staged public event and who has been called out by fact checkers for lying about her opponents.</p><p>Perhaps McGinty&#8217;s reliance on this false narrative can be traced back to the fact that she largely refuses to take positions on matters of national importance. A look at the &#8220;issues&#8221; portion of her website indicates that McGinty is largely trying to run on a platform that contains as little substance as possible.</p><p>Voters deserve to know that McGinty&#8217;s candidacy is as phony as it gets.
