2 arrested after death of hair salon employee

BENTON, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a husband and wife whose decomposing bodies were found in their rural home died in a murder-suicide earlier this month. State police in Columbia County said the bodies of 58-year-old Mark Kauffman and 49-year-old Jennifer Kauffman were found Thursday in their Benton Township home. The county coroner's office said the woman died of a gunshot wound to the torso June 3 and was the victim of a homicide, while the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police went to the home after a concerned relative asked troopers to check on the couple after not having heard from them for two weeks. Police said Mark Kauffman was retired from PPL, was from the Lancaster area and had three children, but none live in the area.
