Luzerne County Council to weigh in on tax-delinquent “private sales”

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; A community event provided an opportunity for borough residents to do more than come out and do some shopping, listen to music and enjoy a bite to eat.</p><p>It provided even more than a day of fun for the young and the young at heart to get their faces painted, learn about art and play under the summer sky.</p><p>The fourth annual Community Day, sponsored by the Plymouth Neighborhood Watch, brought residents together to discover ways they could help their community.</p><p>&#8220;So often people come to me asking how they could help,&#8221; said organizer Maribeth Rosensteel. &#8220;There are so many community organizations looking for members, I wanted people to know about it.&#8221;</p><p>Mary Jarrett, a neighborhood watch member, agrees.</p><p>&#8220;People need to be willing to step up and get involved,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It falls on the residents to help make Plymouth better.&#8221;</p><p>Jarrett and Rosensteel, a mother/daughter team, have worked together on several community efforts, bringing the Friends of the Library group together with the borough&#8217;s neighborhood watch.</p><p>This year, both organizations have joined in selling playing cards.</p><p>&#8220;Each card contains a significant historical fact,&#8221; said Jarrett. &#8220;That&#8217;s 52 pieces of information you can learn just from playing cards.&#8221;</p><p>The ace of clubs, for example, reads, &#8220;The Vietnam Memorial was designed by Clyde Peters and erected to honor seven Plymouth residents who died in that war.&#8221;</p><p>Members of Plymouth Alive were on hand to share information about their mission and membership.</p><p>The organization assists the borough with such diverse efforts as purchasing a computer system for the police department and wooden flower planters for the downtown area and sponsoring various dinners.</p><p>Those gathered said the event was especially significant because it served to kick off the borough&#8217;s sesquicentennial celebration, which will culminate with the Kielbasa Festival in August.</p><p>Steve Konrad, president of the Plymouth Historical Society, said the group has been participating in the event since it began in 2014.</p><p>Konrad and his wife, Mary, said they are looking forward to a summer of celebration of all things Plymouth.</p><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of ways to help,&#8221; said Konrad. &#8220;The Shawnee Cemetery is always looking for people to simply cut grass for an hour or two.&#8221;</p><p>Bernard Poremba, overseeing an art show held at the event, said since he retired, he has been determined to make a difference, spending many hours volunteering.</p><p>An artist, himself, Poremba said he came to love the craft later in life, and now he is hoping to bring that love to the community.</p><style>
