PITTSBURGH (AP) — A western Pennsylvania prosecutor says two police officers were justified in shooting and killing a man who had stabbed a police dog to death. Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. said Tuesday that officers had repeatedly used non-lethal measures against 37-year-old Bruce Kelley Jr. to no effect, and the suspect posed a danger to the public. Authorities said Kelley and his 60-year-old father were drinking in a Wilkinsburg busway gazebo in January and fought with officers. Officials said Kelley fled, leading police on a 20-minute chase, then produced a 4-inch knife and refused orders to drop the weapon. Officials said they used a stun gun and pepper spray repeating before releasing the police dog, Aren, but Kelley stabbed the German shepherd. He was then shot almost a dozen times.
