Wilkes-Barre woman seeks lighter sentence for DUI crash that injured son

<p>WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; While day shifters are sleeping, Lincoln Steward will be riding, approaching the Luzerne County end of the D&amp;L Trail.</p><p>Steward, a cyclist from Nazareth, will bike 284 miles in 24 hours between June 25 and 26 to push his personal limits and raise awareness of the trail as an important regional resource. The 165 mile trail links Bristol to Mountain Top with some inconvenient exceptions.</p><p>In support of the Delaware &amp; Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, which conserves green space through five counties, Steward will leave from Easton at noon June 25 and ride the majority of the trail, bringing him to the Black Diamond trailhead in Wright Township around 5 a.m. June 26 before returning to Easton.</p><p>According to Steward and employees at the Corridor, this is the first attempt to ride the trail&#8217;s length in one day&#8217;s time.</p><p>Steward, who found his love for cycling in Colorado, said he found appreciation for the D&amp;L upon moving back to the Lehigh Valley.</p><p>&#8220;You can cover a lot of distance and not have to be in traffic,&#8221; Steward said. &#8220;It makes bicycling so much safer and enjoyable.&#8221;</p><p>The problem, Steward explained, is the trail is discontinuous in certain spots, leaving the uninitiated rider to wonder how to get to the next point.</p><p>&#8220;There are spots where you assume you reached the end of the trail,&#8221; Steward said.</p><p>Steward&#8217;s feat of endurance is not his first but is his longest and is intended to encourage support for connecting the open sections.</p><p>&#8220;I want to grab some attention as an example that this entire trail does get used from end to end,&#8221; Steward said.</p><p>Beyond promoting completion, which Steward said is difficult because of property rights and issues, Steward believes frequent trail use is advantageous to businesses along the route.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll ride down to a diner, have breakfast and go home,&#8221; Steward said. &#8220;There are a lot of public parks along the way, coffee shops and all sorts of businesses, and some of them back right up to the trial.&#8221;</p><p>The seasoned rider said he sees all manner of people on the trail from joggers to cyclists to full families taking a leisurely stroll. He said the spectrum goes from folks out to enjoy the view to athletes in training.</p><p>&#8220;Even with that kind of mix, everyone seems to be rather courteous,&#8221; Steward said.</p><p>Steward has launched a website, http://bit.ly/28TMf1Z, so people can track his whereabouts. Although he and riding companion Scott Pretti of Bethlehem will be in the Wright Townhip region in the early morning, company is welcome.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;re both probably going to be tired and cranky, so any positive support we can get would put a good spin on things for us,&#8221; Steward said.</p><p>Steward said he hopes the ride becomes an annual event with shorter distance treks for those who want to get involved but can&#8217;t ride the entire expanse.</p><p>Trail manager Scott Everett of Whitehall said as land purchasing opportunities arise, the Corridor plans to develop the trail as one continuous path joining Bristol to the River Commons in Wilkes-Barre, although development will take time.</p><p>&#8220;It joins communities together,&#8221; Steward said.</p><style>
