Victims of Twin Shaft Disaster remembered

<p>Tyler Faust hit a two-run homer and Brady McNulty was strong on the mound, lifting South Wilkes-Barre to a 6-5 win over Jenkins Township on Saturday in the District 16 Little League major baseball tournament.</p><p>McNulty struck out 10 in 5 1/3 innings with Josh Bottger coming on to pick up the save. Jaden Evans (triple) and Ryan Dzurisin (double) added extra-base hits.</p><p>Jenkins Township&#8217;s Matt Johnson had three hits, including a home run and a double.</p><p><strong>Mountain Top 18,</strong></p><p><strong>Pittston Township 1</strong></p><p>In a four-inning win, Mountain Top hit five home runs as Nick Kreuzer, Zach Antosh, Colin Williams, Daryl Boich and Nolan Dunnum all going deep. Colin Wills added a double.</p><p><strong>Plains 16, Duryea 0</strong></p><p>Delano Yuknavich slammed a three-run home run while also getting the win on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out six in a four-inning victory.</p><p>Matt Martin (2-2, three RBI) added a two-run homer. Joe Monahan (two RBI), Andrew Smigiel (two hits) and John Bush (two RBI) also came through at the plate.</p><p>Jeremy Cawley had the lone hit for Duryea.</p><p><strong>Nanticoke 17,</strong></p><p><strong>NWBADP 1</strong></p><p>Nick Matson finished 3 for 3 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored in a four-inning victory. Derek Cease also homered and teamed with Justin Spencer on the mound for a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.</p><p>Owen Brown (two hits), Ethan Egenski (double), Devyn Sura (single), Spencer (single) and Bryant Keegan (two runs) also contributed for Nanticoke.</p><p>Christian Wasko had an RBI single for NWBADP while Cameron Krugel singled and Alex Hoban scored a run.</p><p><strong>DISTRICT 31</strong></p><p><strong>MAJOR BASEBALL</strong></p><p><strong>West Pittston 16,</strong></p><p><strong>Exeter 4</strong></p><p>J.J. Hood, Blaise Sokach-Minnick, Ethan Elms and Max Rosen all hit home runs for West Pittston in a four-inning victory. Hood picked up the win.</p><p>Exeter was led by John Morgan (2-2), Rocco Pizano (triple) and Casey Noone (single).</p><p><strong>Harveys Lake 13,</strong></p><p><strong>West Side 2</strong></p><p>Jacob McMillan homered and scored three runs for Harveys Lake in a four-inning game. Jeremy Scouton, Jeff Meader and Corey Bean combined on a one-hitter. Hunter Woods added two hits and was strong in the field.</p><p>Anthony Sabecky scored a run and led West Side on the mound.</p><p><strong>Kingston/Forty Fort 10,</strong></p><p><strong>Wyoming/W.Wyoming 0</strong></p><p>Ryan Stevens, Logan Broody-Walega and Hunter Sgarlat combined on a no-hitter for Kingston/Forty Fort, striking out nine.</p><p>Jake Griffin (3 for 4) homered and finished a triple short of the cycle. Mason Sgarlat added two hits while Nate Dudeck and Kevin McNulty had one apiece.</p><p><strong>Back Mtn. American 6,</strong></p><p><strong>Northwest 5</strong></p><p>Nick Nocito had a big day for American, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI while also striking out nine in four innings on the mound.</p><p>Austin Finarelli picked up the win, striking out three in two innings of work.</p><p><strong>DISTRICT 31</strong></p><p><strong>MAJOR SOFTBALL</strong></p><p><strong>Harveys Lake 14, Northwest 11</strong></p><p>Five different players &#8212; Krista Scoblick, Jillian Ulozos, Amber Kocher, Brroke Martin and Hailey Kline &#8212; recorded a triple for Harveys Lake. Kline also doubled while Scoblick and Kocher combined to strike out five.</p><p>Nicole McMillian finished with three strikeouts for Northwest. Liz Blaskie singled.</p><p><strong>DISTRICT 16</strong></p><p><strong>SENIOR BASEBALL</strong></p><p><strong>Plains 16,</strong></p><p><strong>Avoca/Dupont/Pittston 15</strong></p><p>Jordan Davis had four hits and drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for Plains, ending a slugfest. Matt Zalaffi, Mike Simon and Noah Stankinas all had multiple hits in the win.</p><p>John Romo had four hits to lead Avoca/Dupont/Pittson City.</p><style>
