<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; UGI will replace nearly 3,000 feet of natural gas lines in the city starting the week of July 11.</p><p>The company Wednesday announced the project to install 2,845 feet of high-density plastic lines in place of the existing steel and plastic main. The project is part of the company&#8217;s $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative.</p><p>The work will take place on the following streets:</p><p>&#8226; Stanton Street between the Park Avenue/Hazle Street intersection and High Street</p><p>&#8226; Harkins Lane from Griffith Lane to Airy Street</p><p>&#8226; Griffith Lane between Stanton Street and Harkins Lane</p><p>&#8226; Airy Street between Stanton Street and Harkins Lane.</p><p>UGI said the project is expected to last approximately seven weeks and to be completed by the end of August. Construction will be done between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.</p><p>Residents and motorists traveling in area should be aware that lane restrictions and road closures will be in effect during the construction and should consider alternate routes. Motorists driving through the construction zone are urged to watch for roadwork signs and to follow the directions of flag personnel.</p><p>&#8220;UGI recognizes Wilkes-Barre residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,&#8221; Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said in a press release. The project is part of the company&#8217;s commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to its customers, Krieger said.</p><p>UGI said it will spend more than $150 million in fiscal year 2016 to replace natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects. Approximately 64 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains are targeted for replacement this year. Since beginning this initiative, UGI has retired nearly 200 miles of non-contemporary pipelines.</p><style>
