Olympic newcomers Kat Sharkey and Kelsey Kolojejchick are heading to Rio.

And USA veteran and Paige Selenski still has a chance to join them on the field.

Former Wyoming Seminary standouts Sharkey and Kolojejchick were named as strikers when the official 16-player USA Olympic field hockey team was officially announced Friday in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.

Selenski was named as an alternate.

Another former Dallas star, Selenski was the only returning member of the 2012 USA team — and one of its most popular — that finished last in pool play who tried out for this year’s Olympic roster but didn’t make the USA’s active roster.

Her selection as an alternate wasn’t a complete surprise, though.

Selenski, who was featured in ESPN The Magazine’s 2015 Body Issue, suffered a torn hamstring last March and tried to continue playing through it after a month of rest. It ultimately required surgery to repair and although the former University of Virginia All-American returned to the sport in the spring, she didn’t play on the USA team that recently captured a bronze medal in Champions Trophy play.

Sharkey and Kolojejchick were.

Sharkey was the nation’s leading Division 1 goal scorer in 2010 and 2012 and named a three-time All-America while playing for Princeton.

Kolojejchick became the first player in the University of North Carolina’s history to be named as an All-American during all four of her college years on the pitch.
