EBENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man who spoke out against clergy abuse after publicly identifying himself as a victim of a predator priest has killed himself. The Cambria County coroner says Brian Gergely hanged himself at his home in Ebensburg on Friday. He was 46. Attorney Richard Serbin represented Gergely when he went public while suing Monsignor Francis McCaa (mik-KAY') and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. The lawsuit settled out of court in 2005, and McCaa died two years later. In March, the priest was named a sexual predator in a scathing state grand jury report released. Serbin says Gergely repeatedly gave interviews about his abuse in hopes of encouraging other victims to come forward.
