<p>The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed forward Adam Krause to an American Hockey League contract for the 2016-17 season on Wednesday.</p><p>Krause turned pro last season and spent the bulk of his time with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL. In 37 games with Wheeling, Krause, 24, had 15 goals and nine assists for 24 points. His goal total tied for third-most on the team.</p><p>Due to call-ups and injuries, Krause joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in March and filled a void on the penalty kill as well as utilizing his two-way game throughout the lineup.</p><p>In his fourth game with the Penguins on March 20, Krause registered his first AHL goal &#8212; a shorthanded tally in a 6-5 overtime win at Hershey. He became the first Penguin in five years to score his first goal while shorthanded.</p><p>Krause also assisted on a Dustin Jeffrey goal in the same game, giving him the first multi-point game of his AHL career.</p><p>In 15 games during his rookie season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Krause recorded four points (1G-3A). Krause was held without a point during three playoff games with the Penguins.</p><p>After signing an AHL deal with the Penguins last summer, Krause was invited to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton&#8217;s training camp in October 2015 and was among the last players cut before joining Wheeling for the start of its regular season.</p><p>Krause was a four-year letterman at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, collecting 16 goals, 21 assists and 169 PIM in 133 games. He also served as team captain during both his junior and senior years.</p><style>
