Bail reduction denied in case of woman whose throat was slit

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A woman has been charged in western Pennsylvania with involuntary manslaughter in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian near Pittsburgh. Twenty-year-old Deria Mahone is charged in Allegheny County in the April 9 death of 23-year-old Nikkolas Poliak in McKees Rocks. Officials said the victim was found in the street in front of an apartment building where he had been staying. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. An autopsy indicated that his injuries were consistent with having been struck by a vehicle, and police were looking for a sedan in connection with the case. Mahone was held at Allegheny County jail; court documents don't list an attorney representing her and a listed phone number for her couldn't be found Wednesday.
