MOOSIC &#8212; The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders went through a series of roster changes during the day Saturday.The RailRiders came out Saturday night and produced the same result.Luis Cessa, Mark Montgomery and Kirby Yates combined on a five-hitter as the RailRiders defeated the Rochester Red Wings, 2-1, to improve the best record in Triple-A baseball.The RailRiders improved to 56-34 and remained four games ahead of the pack in the North Division. They have won 12 of their last 14 and 25 of their last 32.The roster of the New York Yankees&#8217; top farm team changes almost daily, but Saturday&#8217;s five transactions were the most in one day since June 12.All-star right fielder Aaron Judge, the IL&#8217;s top run producer and one of the hottest hitters during the recent tear went on the disabled list. The timing means Judge will miss the Triple-A All-Star Game and an appearance in its Home Run Derby.&#8220;He was disappointed that he wasn&#8217;t in the lineup,&#8221; RailRiders manager Al Pedrique said, &#8220;but he was joking around, saying he&#8217;d be ready by the seventh inning.&#8221;An MRI on Judge&#8217;s left knee proved negative. He may be able to return from the bone bruise and strain not long after the minimum seven-day stay on the DL.The RailRiders managed just three hits in Judge&#8217;s absence, but that was enough because the pitchers did not allow an earned run. They gave up nothing but singles and only two of them over the final 7 2/3 innings.Four of the first eight Red Wings reached against Cessa (3-1). They got just one run from that start, then Cessa got 11 outs on the last 10 batters. He ended the second inning on a double play, then getting 1-2-3 innings in the third, fourth and fourth.&#8220;The double play is the best friend for the pitcher,&#8221; Cessa said.Pedrique said Cessa adjusted his mechanics after the second inning, slowing down his delivery and becoming more effective.&#8220;I felt a little wild,&#8221; Cessa said of the early innings.After spending time in the Yankees bullpen where he was counted on for less pitches, he was done at five innings and 73 pitches.Montgomery and Yates, who picked up his first save, took it from there. Each allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two in two innings.&#8220;Montgomery gave us a couple innings we needed because our bullpen&#8217;s a bit thin right now,&#8221; Pedrique said.Yates relied heavily on his fastball, which he said is his best pitch.&#8220;I&#8217;m always confident in my fastball,&#8221; he said.All of the scoring was packed into the first two innings.Darin Mastroianni scored quickly for Rochester. He singled, took second on a passed ball, moved to third on James Beresford&#8217;s groundball and scored on Jorge Polanco&#8217;s one-out single.The RailRiders got their two runs in the bottom of the second without a hit. Tyler Austin walked, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a two-base error by Red Wings third baseman Beresford on a groundball hit slowly down the line.Cesar Puello reached second on the error, took third on an Ike Davis grounder to the right side and beat the throw home on a Jonathan Diaz grounder to short, even though the infield was in. Wilfredo Tovar&#8217;s throw was on the first-base side and catcher Carlos Paulino could not get the tag down in time.&#8220;He&#8217;s a guy with great speed and great instincts running the bases,&#8221; Pedrique said of Puello. &#8220;As soon as he saw the big bounce, he took off and it was also a great slide.&#8221;Each team advanced just one runner to second base the rest of the way.Leadoff hitter Ben Gamel doubled with two out in the fifth inning and led the RailRiders attack, going 2-for-4.Earlier in the day, the RailRiders regained Chad Green, the IL&#8217;s most effective starting pitcher this season, along with adding catcher Francisco Diaz. They lost right-handed pitcher Nick Goody and catcher Gary Sanchez.Green (6-6) was optioned back to the RailRiders from the Yankees. The righty leads the IL with a 1.54 earned run average while striking out 82 in 81 2/3 innings and allowing the league&#8217;s fewest walks and hits per nine innings at 0.98. He had not yet arrived as of Saturday night&#8217;s game.Goody was recalled by the Yankees after saving three games. He did not have a decision while posting a 3.18 ERA and striking out 19 in 11 1/3 innings over nine relief appearances.Sanchez was placed on the temporary inactive list. In 56 games, he had 9 homers, 37 RBI and a .286 average.Diaz was transferred to the team from Single-A Tampa. He went 1-for-6 in two games with the team earlier in the year and has also played at the Double-A level this season. The 26-year-old from Venezuela was hitting .210 in 21 games for Tampa.The RailRiders send Luis Severino (5-0, 3.07) to the mound Sunday at 1:05 p.m. against Rochester lefty Andrew Albers (6-3, 3.36), then head to the All-Star Break.
