Pennsylvania lawmakers lack answers, money for spending bill

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A former northeastern Pennsylvania police officer convicted of accepting prescription painkillers in exchange for letting a drug dealer go has been sentenced to five to 12 months in prison. The (Wilkes-Barre) Times Leader reports (http://bit.ly/29KLBU4 ) reports that 47-year-old Kenneth Shotwell of Duryea was sentenced Monday in Luzerne County. The former Dupont police officer was convicted in March of bribery, official oppression and obstructing justice after pulling over an oxycodone dealer in March 2013. Prosecutors said the dealer called a Hughestown police officer to whom he had been dealing drugs, and that officer went to the scene and persuaded Shotwell to let the offense slide in exchange for drugs.
