Report: Wilkes-Barre nudges to the healthier side

KINGSTON TWP. &#8212; The township supervisors announced the township received a series of grants, paid off a loan and the hired a new police officer.The township was awarded one grant and three shared grants with neighboring municipalities for a combined total of $622,517.The funds are earmarked for the following projects:&#8226; $35,400 from Department of Environmental Protection for installation of a rain garden in Center Street Park to aid in stormwater management.&#8226; A $200,000 Department of Community and Economic Development gaming grant received along with Dallas and Jackson townships for piping and paving of adjacent roads.&#8226; A $44,117 DCED gaming grant awarded to the Back Mountain Community Partnership to detect and eliminate stormwater runoff areas.&#8226; A $343,000 DCED gaming grant received by the BMCP to build an equipment storage facility near the Lehman Township municipal building.&#8220;This was a good week for us,&#8221; township Manager Kathleen Sebastian said.The supervisors also issued the final payment of $278,609.38 on a bond issued for construction of the current municipal building.The building that houses the township&#8217;s administrative offices and the police station was built in 1998, Sebastian said.&#8220;We refinanced the bond two times for lower interest rates,&#8221; she said.Also, the supervisors welcomed a new officer to the police force.
