Sources say Donald Trump will be in Scranton on Wednesday

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Residents&#8217; reactions to Donald Trump&#8217;s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention ranged from fear to hesitant hope Friday, but shared one stark realization: The possibility of a President Trump becoming a reality.</p><p>Bill T., 60, said he chose not to watch the nominee&#8217;s speech because of his strong opposition to Trump&#8217;s campaign, describing the candidate&#8217;s actions and policies as &#8220;playing on the frustrations and fears of Americans&#8221; and Trump&#8217;s supporters as &#8220;blind to all his faults &#8230; he can say and do anything and they&#8217;ll blindly defend him.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s a salesman that sells himself well,&#8221; he concluded, &#8220;but what he&#8217;s selling is bulls&#8212;t.&#8221;</p><p>Although numerous people approached by the Times Leader declined to give their name, they weren&#8217;t shy when it came to expressing their opinions about Trump. Three people described their feelings about a Trump presidency as &#8220;afraid,&#8221; they said.</p><p>&#8220;I worry about him being president,&#8221; said a 63-year-old Old Forge woman who tuned into parts of Trump&#8217;s speech. She added that she believes he is a good man and that she is glad he brought more voters out, but that he &#8220;shouldn&#8217;t just say whatever comes to his mind.&#8221;</p><p>A Wilkes-Barre man disagreed, however, saying that he believes Trump will make America safer.</p><p>William Barpington, 60, said that his favorite part of Trump&#8217;s speech was when the candidate talked about &#8220;making America safe again.&#8221; Barpington said things were much safer when he was young, and that he applauds the Republican candidate for trying to get the country back to that state, although he is unsure if Trump could actually accomplish it.</p><p>&#8220;The president is only a figurehead,&#8221; Barpington said. Although a fan of Thursday night&#8217;s speech, Barpington has not decided who he is voting for yet.</p><p>One woman, who declined to give her name, said she chose not to watch Trump&#8217;s speech because she thinks he is a &#8220;bully&#8221; and that she &#8220;can&#8217;t stand him.&#8221; Another Wilkes-Barre native agreed with this assessment.</p><p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t stand (Trump) &#8212; he&#8217;s ridiculous,&#8221; said Kim Parulis, 48, of why she chose not to watch Trump&#8217;s speech. Parulis said she was not crazy about either candidate, but that she &#8220;would rather (choose) the one that doesn&#8217;t want to go out and build a wall and blow everyone up.&#8221;</p><p>Rob Jordan, 53, did not watch the speech and agreed that he was not thrilled with either candidate. Unlike Parulis, however, Jordan believed that Trump was the &#8220;lesser of two evils.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I could (see him as the next president),&#8221; Jordan said. &#8220;He surrounds himself with intelligent people.&#8221;</p><p>Jordan went on to say that even though he recognizes some of Trump&#8217;s ideas as &#8220;over the top,&#8221; he has faith that Congress will &#8220;stop him&#8221; if need be.</p><p>Even some who won&#8217;t be voting for Trump in November believed he made strong points in his speech. A Wilke-Barre man, that declined to give his name, said he would be voting for Clinton but still thought Trump&#8217;s speech was &#8220;uplifting&#8221; and his &#8220;most compelling argument&#8221; so far.</p><p>The man said he thought Trump said good things in his speech, but failed to elaborate on how he would execute his plans. Still, he said, it was the first time that the &#8220;reality set in&#8221; of Trump possibly being the next president.</p><style>
