Area gets low spot in new education ratings

Nanticoke eliminated from Little League state title hunt

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; As if on cue, skies darkened on Monday during a public visitation for Kristopher Moules, a corrections officer who died last week in the line of duty at Luzerne County Correctional Facility.</p><p>The service held at Wyoming Valley West High School drew fellow corrections officers from across the state and nation.</p><p>Thirteen members of the Correctional Peace Officer Foundation traveled from as far away as Texas and Oregon to support the Moules family.</p><p>&#8220;It never gets easy,&#8221; said one member. &#8220;We came here straight from Texas, where another corrections officer was killed in the line of duty.&#8221;</p><p>More than 1,000 people made their way into the gymnasium from such diverse groups as the Pride National Correctional Employees Motorcycle Club to the Lackawanna College Police Academy.</p><p>Corrections officers who had worked beside Moules at the prison were visibly moved as they made their way into the viewing.</p><p>Many took time to hug a fellow officer or offer a word of encouragement.</p><p>Also attending the service were 14 members of the youth baseball team which Moules had coached.</p><p>Evan Robaczewski, who graduated with Moules and also coaches the team, led the young players, all under 18 and all in uniform, into the service.</p><p>Robaczewski, who attended Lackawanna College with Moules and shared an apartment with him there, remembered him being devoted to the athletes he played beside and those he coached.</p><p>&#8220;If he hadn&#8217;t been working on Monday night, he would have been coaching,&#8221; Robaczewski said.</p><p>Connor Dolan, of Forty Fort, said he was not surprised at the community&#8217;s response to Moules&#8217; death.</p><p>&#8220;He was well-known and well-liked by so many people,&#8221; Dolan said. &#8220;He played soccer and baseball in high school, and he was good at both.&#8221;</p><p>Korbin Keene, of Larksville, played soccer with Moules in high school. He said not only was Moules good at sports, but he &#8220;always made it fun.&#8221;</p><p>Wyoming Valley West employee Larry Wilk and school board Vice President David Usavage said district employees, members of the school board, teachers and staff were deeply saddened by the loss of a young person who so recently had sat in the classroom as a student.</p><p>Shana Cavuto, of Swoyersville, attending because she worked with Moules&#8217; brother Ken, said the family was well loved by those who know them.</p><p>&#8220;This is very sad for the family,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We want them to know we support them.&#8221;</p><style>
