WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors say they're appealing a county judge's decision to give a new trial to an elderly Pennsylvania woman convicted of poisoning her son's girlfriend with antifreeze, leaving her near death. Helen Galli was sentenced in 2013 to 5½ to 12 years in prison. A Luzerne County jury had convicted her of aggravated assault and reckless endangering. Judge Fred Pierantoni III last week ruled that Galli's defense attorney was ineffective for not objecting to testimony that she told her son's girlfriend to drink the antifreeze-laced drink. Luzerne County prosecutors tell The Citizens' Voice of Wilkes-Barre (http://bit.ly/2aejpfI ) they disagree with the finding and that the defense's strategy was a judgment call.
