After DNC, it's back to parking as usual in South Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — It's a signature facet of South Philly that delegates and protesters at the Democratic National Convention never saw. City officials anticipating protests along the city's main drag gave ample warning that the ages-old practice of parking cars in the median of South Broad Street wouldn't be tolerated during the convention. Now that it's over, South Philadelphians have that parking back, to the consternation of a group pushing for a permanent ban. The practice is already illegal but unenforced. And change won't come easy. Many South Philadelphians have grown used to being able to park in the median in a practice that apparently dates to the early days of the automobile. Mayor Jim Kelley says "it's been that way" for many years, long before he was born.
