Major indexes fell more than 2 percent this week, their worst weekly showing since a 3 percent drop the week ending June 1. 
Financial stocks fell even though Wells Fargo and JPMorgan results were generally better than expected. Results from Alcoa, Safeway and Yum Brands have been mixed. Chipmaker AMD's revenue is falling faster than expected. 
Third-quarter earnings continue, including Citi on Monday, Goldman Sachs and Intel on Tuesday, and Union Pacific and Verizon on Thursday.
<hl2 class="subhead" style="subhead">Tire firm sued on overtime</hl2>
A former service manager for Jack Williams Tire has sued the Moosic-based company in federal court, alleging he was not compensated for time worked over 40 hours weekly.
Attorney Peter Winebrake filed the suit Friday on behalf of Richard Baldwin, Pottsville. In the suit, Baldwin says he frequently worked 48 to 54 hours per week at the Shamokin store from February 2010 to September, but was not paid overtime. He claims that even though he was considered a manager, more than 90 percent of his time was spent on non-managerial duties.
The suit does not say if Baldwin still works for the company.
A call placed to the company's offices was not returned.
<hl2 class="subhead" style="subhead">U.S. sets 17 &amp;#8216;solar zones'</hl2>
Federal officials on Friday approved a plan that sets aside 285,000 acres of public land for the development of large-scale solar power plants, cementing a new government approach to renewable energy development in the West. 
The Obama administration has authorized 10,000 megawatts of solar, wind and geothermal projects that, when built, would provide enough energy to power more than 3.5 million homes, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said. 
<hl2 class="subhead" style="subhead">Stores fight card deal</hl2>
A group of retailers and trade groups has launched a last-ditch effort to stop a settlement worth at least $6 billion that Visa Inc., MasterCard Inc. and major banks have agreed to pay retailers for alleged fee fixing. 
The plaintiffs say they believe the deal would allow the credit card industry to continue to take advantage of merchants and their customers while stopping competition.
