In TV land, big money doesn’t guarantee victory at Olympics

<p>I recently read a National Geographic article that says there will be an extra second in 2016.</p><p>At first, I wondered what the big deal is; a second seemed so insignificant. The article explains that an extra second is important in scientific and technological terms. As I continued to think about it, I realized one second can have quite an impact in other ways as well.</p><p>A second or less could determine if someone is the winner of a race, or if he or she is in 10th place. A bull rider&#8217;s fate can be determined in one one-hundredth of a second!</p><p>I started thinking about what I could do in one second and what impact I could have. I have experienced many things that have impacted my life in a seemingly small way. If I have learned anything from these experiences with my family, my &#8220;Gishwhes&#8221; (scavenger hunt) teammates, friends and even strangers, it is that life is short, and we have to enjoy every minute of it.</p><p>So for my extra second in 2016, I am going to grab some party music, balloons, cupcakes, Pop-Tarts and kazoos, and have some fun &#8211; and hopefully make someone smile. Because a smile can make an impact, brighten someone&#8217;s day and potentially change the world.</p><p>What will you do with your second?</p><p><strong>Kim Swartz</strong></p><p>Frackville</p><style>
