<p>It took the Virginia state champion to finally quiet Swoyersville Legion&#8217;s bats.</p><p>Swoyersville&#8217;s memorable 2016 run came to an end on Friday with an 8-0 loss to Danville (Va.). The team was eliminated from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.</p><p>In five games last week, Swoyersville had scored 37 runs to sweep through the state bracket and had put up 12 runs in the first two games of regionals.</p><p>That surge ended Friday as Danville&#8217;s Austin Cotton pitched a four-hit shutout, going all nine innings while striking out eight. Justin Montalvo, Dominick Bayo, Mark Baron and Austin Sienkiewicz had the only hits in the loss.</p><p>Swoyersville had won its regional opener 5-0 on Wednesday over New Jersey champ Flemington before being outslugged by tournament host Leesburg (Va.) 11-7 on Thursday. The loss to Danville knocked Swoyersville out of contention for a spot in the Legion World Series, ending the season for the Pennsylvania state champion.</p><p>But it wasn&#8217;t a blowout the entire way. The game was scoreless through six innings as starter Zach Kobusky held Danville to five hits before the dam burst in the bottom of the seventh.</p><p>Danville racked up seven runs on six hits against two pitchers in the frame to take control of the game. Swoyersville managed to load the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth but couldn&#8217;t break through.</p><p>For the tournament, Ryan Hogan (two doubles) and Baron (one double) each had four hits apiece over three games. Hogan&#8217;s three RBI led the squad. Tyler Yankosky recorded the win in the opener, pitching eight shutout innings with five strikeouts.</p><p>Swoyersville&#8217;s 2016 season included a Wyoming Valley league title and a Region 5 crown before capturing the program&#8217;s second state championship in three years.</p><style>
