PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A sergeant in the sheriff's department remains in critical condition days after he was seriously injured in an elevator malfunction at Philadelphia's main courthouse. WPVI-TV Philadelphia reports (http://6abc.cm/2b9Cej2) that Philadelphia Sheriff Jewel Williams said the 50-year-old sergeant remains in a medically induced coma and is paralyzed from the waist down. Authorities say the man suffered severe injuries to his head and chest on Thursday when the elevator car shot up quickly to a high floor and concrete flooring above. Another employee was also injured when debris from the collision fell into an adjacent shaft and struck an elevator car in the basement. Experts have since tested the 17-story Criminal Justice Center's elevators and deemed them safe.
